The Lehighton Band will present its final concert of the year at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Lehighton Park Amphitheater.
A “Return to the Theater” is the theme for this concert and will feature songs from Broadway, the Silver Screen and beyond.
The concert will begin with “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
The band will open with “The Great Movie Marches” including marches from the movies “Patton,” “How the West Was Won” and “Conquest” from “Captain from Castile.”
In honor of the new fall season, the band will perform Johnny Mercer’s “Autumn Leaves” arranged by Alfred Reed.
The band’s first Broadway selection will be music from “The Producers,” which includes eight songs from the wildly popular musical.
“How the West Was Won” is a western fantasy the band will play in honor of western movies. Although not movie related, the band has chosen the 1950s hit, “Shake, Rattle and Roll” as its next selection.
The band will then skip back to Broadway to perform “Selections from Into the Woods” with music by Stephen Sondheim.
The next march is by Eric Osterling and is titled “The Nutmeggers.”
Selections from the Broadway musical “Pippin” will follow which includes “Corner the Sky,” “Magic to Do,” “Extraordinary,” “Simple Joys,” “Morning Glow” and “Finale” and are arranged by Ralph Ford.
“Sunshine of Your Love” from 1967 will be the next number. The song, made famous by Cream, appeared in the movie “School of Rock.”
The band will continue with Highlights from the movie “The Right Stuff.”
The final Broadway selection for the concert is “Selections from The Phantom of the Opera.” It includes “Think of Me,” “Angel of Music,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” “All I ask of You,” “The Point of No Return” and the “Music of the Night” arranged by Warren Barker.
The band will conclude the concert with an encore performance of John Philip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
The Lehighton Band is under the direction of Bradly R. Cressley.
The concert is free to the public, but free will offerings are always appreciated as the band is nonprofit.
The band is in the process of changing banks, so unfortunately checks cannot be accepted at this time.
A Christmas concert is currently in the planning stages and a time, date and location will be announced soon.
