Old Hippies near one year of ‘Home to Home’ concerts | Lifestyles

The duo Old Hippies will “open our windows and allow some fresh air in and music out for everyone to enjoy,” says Bill McDonald, one-half of the duo.

Bill and Kay McDonald, who perform as The Old Hippies, will present another “Home to Home” concert at 7 tonight from their home in Stuart, Fla.

Bill does advise the audience to be patient as they “may be a bit late for this one.”

The Hippies will be joined for this week’s concert by Vincent Pastore, a Batavia native who plays fiddle and mandolin. He has appeared several times with the Hippies as part of their pandemic concerts.

Kay and Bill McDonald have been presenting a series of (mostly) Saturday night performances since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. The concerts began from the living room of their Florida home and later included a handful of outings streamed from Florida-area venues. The concerts continued through the summer with concerts from their Batavia home and other locations in the four-county GLOW region before they returned to Florida.

The concerts will mark one year on March 21. The duo has already performed 52 concerts under the “Home to Home” banner, with some Saturdays seeing them play multiple shows. They have also presented special performances ahead of holidays and as a mid-week respite during the summer.

Bill McDonald said he and Kay “are so thankful to all who have helped us through some trying times by giving us something to do with our time, while joining us at our Home to Home Concert series for the common good.”

The full title of the concert series is called “Be Kind to One Another Home to Home Concert Series.”

Singing, dancing and playing along at home is encouraged.

The performances are designed to connect folks who are unable to go out to concerts and other arts programs due to closures and limits on large gatherings as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our purpose has been and will continue to bring some music, peace, love, entertainment and good vibes through our music from our home/location to yours/location,” Bill McDonald said.
