Since its formation, Handsome has toured the likes of Stormzy, Bon Iver, The xx, Phoebe Bridgers, Freddie Gibbs, Middle Kids, The War On Drugs and many others.
Handsome produced Gang Of Youths’ Say Yes To Life 2018 tour, which sold over 50,000 tickets nationwide and smashed venue records. Also, the indie promoter was behind 2020’s Down To Earth – A Bushfire and Climate Fundraiser at Sidney Myer Music Bowl, which raised over $1.4 million for bushfire relief.
“Mark and Colin have a proven track record of uncovering breakthrough artists before they break and supporting them on their live journey for the long term,” TEG CEO Geoff Jones tells Billboard.
“Their relationship-focused approach and Handsome’s vibrant roster fit well into TEG’s integrated business, which includes multiple promoters across diverse genres, a growing venue portfolio, our live entertainment marketing and analytics platform and one the world’s leading ticketing platforms in Ticketek.”
TEG’s vertically-integrated business is active in ticketing, live entertainment and technology, with interests including Ticketek, TEG Live, Qudos Bank Arena, Eventopia, TEG Dainty, The U.K.’s MJR Group and Van Egmond Group, the Melbourne-based concert promotion company which has produced some of the biggest tours ever to visit these parts.
Live entertainment spins the TEG wheel.
Prior to the pandemic, its Ticketek company in Australia delivered 30 million tickets annually for over 30,000 events, from concerts to theater, musicals, festivals and more.
Going forward, Handsome Tours’ Mark Dodds will continue to lead as the company’s Managing Director, and Colin Daniels will assume the position of executive director in addition to his ongoing responsibilities as managing director of Inertia Music/[PIAS] Australia. Both remain partners in the venture.
“Belonging to a world-class group like TEG,” comments Dodds, “will empower us to speak to more music-lovers in more sophisticated ways than ever before, delivering bigger outcomes for agents, managers and their talent at every point of an act’s journey.”
Following the transaction, Handsome’s founding partners Sellers, Everett and Cosby will exit, will be replaced as board members by Jones and TEG CFO Sandra Rouse.
Investment company Silver Lake acquired TEG in 2019 for a price tag in excess of $1.3 billion, sources say.
