The LyricFind U.S. and LyricFind Global charts rank the fastest momentum-gaining tracks in lyric-search queries and usages in the U.S. and globally, respectively, provided by LyricFind. The Global chart includes queries from all countries, including the U.S. The company is the world’s leader in licensed lyrics, with data provided by more than 5,000 publishers and utilized by more than 100 services, including Amazon, Pandora, Deezer, Microsoft, SoundHound and iHeartRadio. The latest tracking week ended Jan. 10.
Combining both angles noted above, Bowie’s “This Is Not America,” with the Pat Metheny Group, returns to the LyricFind U.S. chart at No. 2 with a 4,573% increase in lyric views in the U.S. in the tracking week. (“The little peace in me will die … for this is not America,” Bowie sings in the song, which was released 1985.) Beyond its lyrics, fans celebrated the birth and commemorated the passing of Bowie, who was born Jan. 8, 1947, and died Jan. 10, 2016.
Three other Bowie songs re-enter the LyricFind U.S. ranking: “Five Years” (No. 7, up 2,000% in U.S. lyric searches), “I’m Afraid of Americans” (No. 14, up 553%) and “Queen Bitch” (No. 24, up 1,058%).
Following the Jan. 6 violence at the U.S. Capitol building, Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing in the Name” returns to the LyricFind U.S. chart at No. 10, up 778% in U.S. lyric views, followed by Black Sabbath’s “The Mob Rules” (No. 19, up 2,183%) and Leonard Cohen’s “Democracy” (No. 21, up 825%).
Meanwhile, Laura Branigan’s ’80s smash “Gloria” debuts at No. 3 on the LyricFind U.S. chart, up 1,582%, after video surfaced of it being played at President Trump’s rally Jan. 6 before the invasion of the Capitol.
Additionally, two classics with “Georgia” in their titles appear on the latest LyricFind U.S. ranking, following the Jan. 5 election of Georgia senators Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock: Ray Charles’ “Georgia on My Mind” (No. 15, up 775%) and The Charlie Daniels Band’s “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” (No. 20, up 698%).
On the LyricFind Global chart, two of the songs above place in the top 10: “This Is Not America” re-enters at No. 5 and “Gloria” debuts at No. 6.
